Twisp draws crowds at Bierfest
Chanting old school classics, enjoying an array of locally and internationally produced beers and socialising with a group of your friends – this sounds like a recipe for a festive and rather enjoyable day.
While munching on authentic German pretzels, you can enjoy people watching – with the crowd dressed for the occasion: with ladies wearing local dirndl outfits and men wearing lederhosens! For those who aren’t willing to travel across the globe for the festivities, South Africa has created their very own version –Bierfest, inspired by Oktoberfest in Munich.
Bierfest, South Africa has become a spectacular event which brings together just about everyone above the drinking age. The festival takes place annually, having first started in 1810 in Munich, it now has become a global sensation with fistfuls of frothing bier being consumed. The tradition continues with a South African flare in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban, with thousands gathering in a tent to enjoy a variety of beers.
In true Twisp style, we had to be part of the festivities, so we decided to follow Bierfest along their journey around South Africa, first stopping off in Durban between 19 – 21 September. Our Twisp promotional team gave hundreds of festival goers the chance to sample our spectacular flavours. Next stop on the tour was Johannesburg between 17 – 26 October. We ran a fantastic social media competition at each of the Bierfest destinations and our team received only positive feedback with a couple of Bierfest goers purchasing Twisp Clearo’s to make use of at the indoor event.
Then the last stop was at the Newlands Brewery Village Green in Cape Town, which was transformed into a Bavarian styled beer paradise between Friday, 14 November and Sunday, 16 November 2014. The event showcased all parts of Bavarian culture, from German sausages to a traditional Oompah band.
All of the brauhause (beer halls) had delicious traditional beers all locally produced by South African Brewers, such as; Krystal Weiss, Munich Dunkel and Royal Bavaria. While enjoying their beers, our Twisp team was there to introduce festival goers to our delicious flavours – all perfectly paired with a beer.
Until next year – Prost!
